New Delhi: Pollution Under Control (PUC) certification centers are going to be open throughout the city on Monday thereby allowing those living in New Delhi to avoid a possible traffic jam. This follows the decision by owners of petrol pumps who had threatened to go on a strike to call off the action after they met with the Minister for Transport.
The planned strike was in reaction to the current costs of PUC services that have raised concerns among dealers of petrol. They maintained that there was no revision since 2011 and this coupled with an increase in operational cost rendered these charges unsustainable. In response, the transport minister gave his nod to their problem while stressing that his ministry was actively taking into account their plea for a hike in fees.
PUC certificates are mandatory documents for vehicles plying on Indian roads as they are issued only after an emission test has been carried out on them checking emission gases such as carbon monoxide (CO) and carbon dioxide (CO2). This procedure ensures that vehicles comply with environmental regulations which lead to fresh air. Presently, the price for a PUC check varies depending on vehicle types as follows:
- ₹60 – Petrol / CNG Two Wheelers & Three Wheelers
- ₹80 – Petrol Four-Wheelers
- ₹100 – Diesel Cars
There would have been much trouble in New Delhi had the potential strike gone on due to long queues and delays in getting PUC certificates. In the absence of a strike, people can now test their cars for emissions without any inconvenience. This is good news because proper air quality remains one of our paramount concerns in this city.
Bursty Perplexing Language On airs’ maintenance being a top priority, this is a welcome development. This has offered great relief especially when one considers that air pollution prevention and control is a major concern of this municipality. Avoidance of strikes has also made it possible to conduct emissions tests on vehicles as though nothing happened. Consequently, maintaining a clean atmosphere in town, in such conditions seems beneficial.
