In order to maintain the highest level of transparency and integrity of the examination process, the Ministry of Education, Government of India has decided to cancel the UGC-NET June 2024 examination, the Ministry of Education said in a statement.
The Ministry of Education has announced the cancellation of the UGC-NET exam conducted by the National Testing Agency. The government has surprised everyone by announcing the cancellation of the exam just one day after the exam was held. The medical entrance exam of NEET conducted by NTA is also under question and is currently being reviewed by the Supreme Court.
Now the cancellation of UGC-NET exam has raised serious questions. It is significant that this time NTA conducted the exam on OMR sheet in offline mode. 11.21 lakh students took the exam at 317 centers across the country. However, after the cancellation of the exam, the entire exercise will be repeated.
Why did the government cancel the UGC-NET exam?
The Ministry of Education said that based on the input received from the National Cyber Crime Threat Analytics Unit of the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre, it was decided to cancel the UGC NET exam 2024. It was claimed that the input was rigged in the examination. New exam dates will be announced soon. In a statement, the Ministry of Education said, ‘In order to maintain the highest level of transparency and integrity of the examination process, the Ministry of Education, Government of India has decided that the UGC-NET June 2024 examination is cancelled. A new exam will be conducted and its information will be shared soon. CBI will conduct a comprehensive investigation of the case. UGC-NET Exam, Assistant Professor and Junior Research Fellowship is required to become an Assistant Professor.
What is National Testing Agency?
The National Testing Agency is an autonomous body that conducts entrance examinations for admission to higher educational institutions of the country. The National Testing Agency (NTA) is responsible for preparing the examination paper, distributing it to the examination center and checking the examination paper. It was announced by the central government in the year 2017 and in December 2018, the NTA conducted the first UGC-NET exam.
Apart from UGC-NET, NEET, NTA also conducts Joint Entrance Examination (Main) for engineering entrance examination. Admission to the top engineering institutes of the country like IITs and NITs is based on this exam. However, after JEE Main, JEE Advanced level examination is conducted and it is conducted by IIT institutes on the basis of rotation system. Apart from these, NTA also conducts exams like CMAT and GPAT. CMAT is conducted for admission in management institutes of the country and GPAT for admission to masters program in pharmacy institutes.
At present, the head of NTA is former UPSC chairman Pradeep Kumar Joshi. There are 14 people including the chairman in the governing body of NTA. IAS officer Subodh Kumar Singh is the Director General of NTA. Also, three directors of IITs who previously conducted and conducted the JEE Advanced Level Examination, two directors of NITs who presided over the Central Seat Allocation Board, two directors of IIMs who presided over the CAT examination, rotation One director each of Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Institute on rotation basis, one representative of central universities on rotation basis, Vice Chancellor of IGNOU, Chairman of National Assessment and Accreditation Council, Psychology expert Dr. Harish Shetty joins the board members.
