In view of recent incidents of alleged paper leakage of some competitive examinations, the Ministry of Health has decided to assess the robustness of the process of NEET-PG entrance examination conducted by the National Board of Examinations for medical students.
Decision to postpone NEET-PG entrance exam
As a precautionary measure, it has been decided to postpone the NEET-PG entrance exam scheduled for tomorrow i.e. 23rd June, 2024. The new date of this exam will be notified soon. The Ministry of Health has expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to the students. The ministry has said that this decision has been taken in the best interest of the students and to maintain the sanctity of the examination process.
Congress leader Shashi Tharoor also requested to postpone the exam
Amid the ongoing controversy over the alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG examination, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor had urged the central government to postpone the NEET-PG examination scheduled for June 23. Keeping students’ interests in mind, Shashi Tharoor also referred to the scorching heat prevailing in North India.
When will the NEET-UG exam be held?
The NEET-UG re-examination for 1,563 candidates will be conducted on Sunday, June 23. While conducting the examination, officials from the National Testing Agency (NTA) and the Union Ministry of Education will be present at the examination centres.
While hearing various petitions on this matter, the Supreme Court had on June 18 said that if there is ‘0.001 per cent negligence’ by anyone in the conduct of the examination, it should be fully dealt with.
“Ministry of Health sincerely regrets the inconvenience caused to the students. This decision has been taken in the best interests of the students and to maintain the sanctity of examination process,” a statement by the ministry read.
This is the second competitive exam that has been postponed after UGC-NET was cancelled due to the exam paper being leaked on darknet. There is also an ongoing row over alleged irregularities in the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (Undergraduate).
A day before, the National Testing Agency (NTA) had announced that the CSIR-UGC-NET exam, scheduled to take place from June 25, was postponed due to “unavoidable circumstances”.
