“During a press conference on Saturday, Singh expressed outrage, stating, ‘When Arvind Kejriwal’s wife requested to meet him, she was informed that face-to-face meetings were not permitted, only through a ‘jangla’ [window]. Why such inhuman treatment?’
“The ‘mulakat jangla’ refers to an iron mesh partition inside the jail’s visiting room, which separates inmates from visitors. It allows communication between the two parties while maintaining physical separation.”
The AAP leader asserted that this “inhuman act” was executed “just to humiliate and discourage” the chief minister. “This is happening at the behest of the BJP-led Central government,” Singh proclaimed.
As of now, there has been no immediate reaction from the Tihar administration.
Currently, Kejriwal is held in Delhi’s Tihar jail. He was apprehended by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with a money laundering case related to the alleged excise policy scam on March 21. Initially placed in the ED’s custody, he was subsequently transferred to judicial custody until April 15.
Recently, the jail authorities scheduled Kejriwal’s meeting with his Punjab counterpart Bhagwant Mann for April 15, specifying that he could meet the AAP convener, but solely as a regular visitor in the ‘mulakat jangla’.
The Rajya Sabha MP strongly denounced the situation, decrying, “What kind of inhumanity is this? This action seems designed solely to humiliate and undermine the CM. I affirm with utmost certainty that even notorious criminals are allowed to congregate in the barracks, yet a three-time CM of Delhi is restricted to seeing his wife through a window with a glass barrier.”
He went on to critique the circumstances surrounding his and Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann’s scheduled meeting with Kejriwal in jail, which was abruptly canceled, arguing that they shouldn’t have been denied access to the CM on such short notice.
Sanjay Singh pointed out the apparent lack of awareness of the BJP government regarding the CM of Punjab, stating, “While it might be understandable that they are not familiar with me (Sanjay Singh), how can the BJP be unaware that they are issuing a token to the CM of Punjab?”
He also posed questions to the Tihar Jail authorities and the BJP government, asking, “Can you provide a single instance, since the establishment of Tihar Jail, where two Chief Ministers were allowed to meet in such a manner—one behind bars and the other outside, without any face-to-face interaction?”
“Today, the battle is for the preservation of democracy and the Constitution. I urge PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah not to infringe upon the rights of Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, which are constitutionally, democratically, legally, and in accordance with prison regulations. Do not attempt to assume dictatorial powers,” added the AAP leader.
