Lok Sabha elections will be held in seven phases on April 19, April 26, May 7, May 13, May 20, May 25 and June 1. Results are expected to be announced on June 4. Just before polling, a statement made by Election Commission said that their authorities under its supervision seized around Rs 4650 crore, this is the highest ever seizure by election commission ahead of polls.
“With general elections 2024 underway, the Election Commission is on track for the highest-ever seizures of inducements recorded in the 75-year history of Lok Sabha elections in the country,” it said in a statement.
Out of the total amount of seizure, it is said that 45% has been recovered from drugs i.e. around Rs. 2,069 crore.
The Poll body says that Rs 100 crore have been seized daily since March 1. It clearly means they were seizing money of Rs. 100 crore every day since 1st of March.
The election commission futher said that it’s a part of rules and regulations under ECI. To conduct free and fair election, and to control the disturbances done by political malpractices, black money, this part is necessary.
Recently the helicopters of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee were also investigated. In this context, EC sources also said that checking or searching of helicopters, such as in the case of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Trinamool Congress’ Abhishek Banerjee were part of standard instructions to ensure free and fair polls.
