Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to address two rallies in Jammu and Kashmir today, in Srinagar and Katra, as part of the ongoing 2024 assembly election campaign. The first phase of voting in the region saw a record turnout of 59% across 24 seats.
PM Modi will hold his first rally in the Valley at the Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium in Srinagar around 12 PM, followed by another rally at the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board Sports Complex in Katra at 3 PM. These events are crucial for the BJP’s efforts to garner support in the region, where elections are being held after nearly a decade.
Security Measures: Given the significance of these rallies, extensive security arrangements have been put in place. This is PM Modi’s first election rally in the Valley for this election cycle, with heightened security protocols being implemented to ensure safety.
Election Schedule: The Jammu and Kashmir elections are being conducted in three phases. The first phase was completed on September 18, with the second and third phases scheduled for September 25 and October 1, respectively. The results of the elections will be announced on October 8. This election marks a significant event as it is the first time in nearly 10 years that Jammu and Kashmir is holding assembly elections since becoming a Union Territory.
The rallies today are expected to set the tone for the BJP’s campaign in the region, with PM Modi rallying support for party candidates ahead of the upcoming phases of voting.
