Lok Sabha Election 2024 Phase 1
Voting for the first phase of Lok Sabha elections is underway in 102 seats spread across 21 states and Union Territories. Today, certain establishments such as liquor shops, banks, schools, and colleges will remain closed in the polling constituencies.
The states participating in the first phase of polling include Tamil Nadu (39), Uttarakhand (5), Arunachal Pradesh (2), Meghalaya (2), Andaman and Nicobar Islands (1), Mizoram (1), Nagaland (1), Puducherry (1), Sikkim (1), and Lakshadweep (1), Rajasthan (12), Uttar Pradesh (8), Madhya Pradesh (6), Assam (5), Maharashtra (5), Bihar (4), West Bengal (30, Manipur (2), Tripura (1), Jammu and Kashmir (1), and Chhattisgarh (1).

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi urged people to exercise their franchise and vote for the nation.
Overall, voting for 543 Lok Sabha seats will be held in seven phases beginning today. The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which is seeking a record third term under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has set a target of winning 400 seats this election. The ruling alliance is challenged by the opposition parties led by the Congress under the banner of INDIA bloc.
The incumbent prime minister Narendra Modi, who completed a second term, is running for a third consecutive term.
The counting of votes for all seven phases of Lok Sabha Elections will take place on June 4.
History of Elections in India
India’s first general elections held between 25th October 1951 and 21st February 1952, first after India attained independence in 1947. Voters elected the 489 members of the first Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Parliament of India. Elections to most of the state legislatures were held simultaneously.
