Google’s Iconic ‘G’ Logo Gets a Fresh Look After 10 Years – And The Internet Has Thoughts!

Guess what? After almost a decade, Google has finally given its famous ‘G’ logo a bit of a makeover! The new design is shedding those familiar, solid four-color blocks. Instead, it subtly blends the red, yellow, green, and blue into a smooth gradient, making it look noticeably more vibrant and colorful.

It’s a subtle change, for sure, but this new blended ‘G’ now perfectly matches the gradient style Google’s been using for its Gemini AI logo. Right now, The Verge reports you’ll only spot this fresh new ‘G’ on updated iOS and Pixel phones.

Apparently, this is the first time Google’s done a big logo update in nearly a decade. Their last major tweak was way back in September 2015, when they swapped out their old font for a sleek sans-serif. Even then, they also rolled out a new ‘G’ logo that incorporated all their brand colors, though in a different style.

Interestingly, there’s no word on changes to the main “Google” wordmark yet, and no official confirmation if other product logos will get a similar gradient treatment. For now, on the web and most Android devices, that ‘G’ still has those distinct borders between colors.

Of course, the internet had plenty to say about the subtle shift! Some users immediately chimed in, calling the new logo “good looking,” while others just shrugged, saying they could barely tell it was different.

“Google’s new gradient logo is natural evolution. This refresh isn’t just overdue, it feels like the design finally caught up with where it always wanted to go. Good business decision,” praised one user.

Another, perhaps less impressed, quipped, “wut! the logo of google has been changed? I like old logo, that looks better than the new one.”

A third user offered some deeper insight: “It might look like a tiny tweak, but shifting from solid colors to a gradient in the new ‘G’ logo actually helps Google modernize its look and better align with its growing focus on AI and digital experiences. The gradient makes the logo feel more dynamic and screen-friendly, and it matches the visual style of Google’s AI products like Gemini-so it’s less about immediate gains and more about staying fresh and signaling the company’s direction for the future.”

And then, perhaps summing up the general sentiment, someone else wrote, “Google’s logo updates are the real definition of ‘spot the difference.'” Honestly, they’ve got a point!
