Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) has officially announced the schedule for the UP-PCS Prelims and RO-ARO Prelims exams. According to the notification released on Tuesday, the UP-PCS Prelims will be held on December 7 and 8, in two shifts each day. The RO-ARO exams, originally postponed due to a paper leak, will take place on December 22 and 23, spread across three shifts.
UP-PCS and RO-ARO Exam Details
The UP-PCS Prelims will be conducted in 41 districts across Uttar Pradesh. The decision to conduct the exam over two days was made due to logistical issues in securing enough exam centers with adequate capacity. For the RO-ARO exams, the paper leak in a previous session led to the rescheduling of these exams. However, some competitive exam aspirants have expressed concerns, voicing their protests on social media about the decision to hold exams over multiple days.
Number of Registrations for UP-PCS Prelims
A total of 576,154 candidates have registered for the UP-PCS Prelims. The commission explained that to accommodate this many candidates in a single day, at least 1,758 exam centers would have been needed. However, only 978 exam centers, with a combined capacity of 435,074 candidates, were available.
RO-ARO Exam Registrations
For the RO-ARO Prelims, a staggering 1,076,004 candidates have registered. Based on past experiences, the commission has opted to hold these exams across multiple shifts to ensure fairness and transparency.

- First Shift: 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM
- Second Shift: 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM
RO-ARO Prelims
- First Shift (December 22): 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM
- Second Shift (December 22): 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM
- Third Shift (December 23): 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM
Normalization Process Explained
Given the large number of candidates, the UPPSC has explained that when the number of candidates exceeds 5 lakh in a single shift, it is necessary to conduct the exam in multiple shifts. The commission also mentioned that for the first time, the exams will be held across multiple days with a normalization process in place to ensure fairness. This process will be fully automated, with no human intervention.
