New Delhi: Senior lawyer and former Attorney General of India Mukul Rohatgi has given clarification regarding the allegations leveled in the US against the Adani Group. Rohatgi said that the group’s founder Gautam Adani and his nephew Sagar Adani have not been accused of bribery or obstruction of justice in the chargesheet filed by the US Justice Department.
Talking to the media, Rohatgi said, “This is my personal legal opinion. I have studied the chargesheet closely. There are five charges in it, but Gautam Adani and Sagar Adani are named in only two charges, which relate to securities and bonds. They are not named in the first and fifth charges, which are considered the most serious.”
Rohatgi further said that the chargesheet contains the names of some other individuals and companies, who have been accused of violating the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and obstruction of justice. He said that the Adani Group will fight these charges legally and will also inform the stock exchanges.
Rohatgi also mentioned some “worrying” points in the chargesheet, though he did not elaborate on them.
